The 4th edition of the Food and Nutrition Guidelines for Healthy Infants and Toddlers (Aged 0–2): A background paper brings together and updates key areas of food and nutrition that affect the health of infants and toddlers.

The document specifically supports three of the key population health objectives of the New Zealand Health Strategy – to improve nutrition, increase physical activity and reduce obesity. It also links with the Ministry’s specific health indicator of increasing the proportion of infants being exclusively and fully breastfed in the first six months of life.

The Guidelines provide a policy base for nutrition focused strategies like Healthy Eating: Healthy Action and health education resources such as Eating for Healthy Babies and Toddlers (From Birth to Two Years Old); Starting Solids and Feeding your Baby Infant Formula.
