This research was undertaken to understand how risky gambling behaviours, gambling-related harm, and related life situations change over time. HPA will use the findings to help identify how and when interventions can be developed to recognise risky gambling early on and to minimise gambling-related harm to individuals, families, and communities. A secondary research objective was to assess the feasibility of conducting a follow-up study within the same sample of research respondents to determine the potential response rate and representativeness of the re-contacted sample.

Purpose

The research objective was to analyze changes in gambling participation and harm, and to explore perceived reasons for the changes, as well as self-regulation strategies used. The findings of this research will help HPA’s work programme regarding opportunities to intervene at an earlier stage in the gambling harm trajectory.
