This report details the results of a survey of people’s participation in, and attitudes towards, gambling. For the purposes of this report, gambling includes playing housie, gaming machines, Lotto, Instant Kiwi/scratchies and Keno as well as raffles and various forms of betting.

A randomly selected sample of 1,672 people aged 15 years and over living in private households were interviewed face-to-face in April and May, 2005. A market research company National Research Bureau (NRB) carried out the fieldwork and data processing. The questionnaire was based on previous surveys commissioned by the Department of Internal Affairs in 1985, 1990, 1995 and 2000.
